FABBRICA
Fabbrica Olive Museum is located in Syvros, a picturesque village in southern Lefkada.
The museum is part of a 19th century building complex, including the old olive oil factory which still belongs to the Tsarlambas family, one of the oldest family trees on the island.
The building was declared a historical monument by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1997. It is part of an architectural complex covering 1200 sq.m and comprising houses, horse stables, an olive warehouse, an old wood oven in a field of 8000 sq.m in the middle of the village.
The old olive oil factory was built in the early 1800’s by the ancestors of the current owner and was in operation until the mid 1970’s.
Several techniques of extracting olive oil were used in this factory.
In the beginning it was done with a horse powered grinding machine, then a diesel engine was used and finally an electric motor.
The old olive oil factory was restored and converted into a museum in 2003 in order to offer its visitors the chance to familiarize themselves with the underlying culture of the valuable product that olive oil is and to get acquainted with the old traditional techniques of its production as well.
FABBRICA
Visitors can try all of our products in the tasting area following a special tasting ritual which reveals the secrets of excellent quality olive oil.
Now the museum is open to the public as a visiting destination where one can also buy high quality, homemade local products and souvenirs.
Fabbrica Olive Museum and its equipment is an excellent example of
a) Agricultural tradition
b) Pre industrial technology and
c) Architectural tradition
Nature is something which needs a lot of respect.
